Belgium-based trio Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy follow their acclaimed Iceberg and Rumba with another Tati-inspired, candy-colored romp: this time, a charmingly off-kilter adventure about a hotel clerk who falls in love with a wish-granting fairy. -- (C) Kino Lorber

Its appeal is ... in watching people who have devised their own original style of comic performance and have taken it to a rare level of refinement.
The vibe's too rarefied to last the length of a feature film - and it doesn't - but when "The Fairy" is on, it creates entirely new comic synapses in your head.
Physical comedy is so rare in movies now that a team like Bruno Romy, Fiona Gordon, and Dominique Abel is something to be treasured.
You'll get a kick out of "The Fairy,'' even if you don't believe in fairies.
It's wonderful to be reminded that the film universe is more diverse than the Oscars normally suggest - and also that movies can be lightweight entertainments and also deeply strange.
Although less technically polished than "The Artist" and splashed with bright color, "The Fairy" shares some of that film's qualities, for good (funny and sweet) and bad (sentimental and ingratiating).
Do yourself and your kids a favor. On the way to multiplex to see "The Avengers," tell them "The Fairy" is about an all-powerful superheroine. Someday, they'll find the words to thank you.
perfect timing, improvisational talents and [an] exuberant screenplay turn an absurd comedy into a thoroughly enjoyable absurdist comedy
The clownish night clerk and his fairy princess swoop and pratfall through a series of physical vignettes that leave us in stitches.
It's a slight film, and it's over just as you're thinking it should be, but it's both sweet and refreshingly tart...
Though occasionally the absurd humor falls flat, the attempt to forge something utterly unlike anything else happening in cinema today gives this film a mesmerizing and memorable charm.
Abel and Gordon's combination of dance and slapstick could easily be lifted from their films and performed on stage without benefit of story, but the trio (Romy appears as a cafe owner) find delightful ways to string the routines together.
A delightfully refreshing comedy that eventually runs out of steam.
Somewhere between The Artist and The Fairy lies the silent-era homage that's truly worthy of its influences.
A delightful genre-blending adventure that's part romantic romp, part escapist fantasy, part slapstick comedy, and part song-and-dance musical.
At its best, this kooky farce reminds you of how much gifted performers can accomplish with pantomime and sheer presence.
"The Fairy" starts with Dom(Dominique Abel, writer/director #1) being late to his job as a night clerk at a hotel due to a malfunctioning bicycle. So, all he wants to do when he gets to work is eat a sandwich and watch an old movie but is constantly interrupted by customers like Fiona(Fiona Gordon, writer/director
